…as police corp0ral was shot dead in Delta
In what could rightly be described as gross abuse of power even though it has become ramP@nt among our security agencies, a policeman simply identified as Sergeant Emeka has shot a farmer, Ijeh Chukwuedo, in his stomach over a sum of money in Ubulu Uku community of Delta state.
The victim is currently recuperating at the Federal Medical Centre, in Asaba after undergoing a surgery to remove the bullets lodged in his stomach and thigh.
Reports have it that Sergeant Emeka and two other policemen were conscripted by another man identified as Funaya to help him retrieve the sum of N15,000 from Chukwuedo.
The four men allegedly waited for the farmer along Ubulu-Issele-Uku Road and when they spotted him approaching on his motorcycle, flagged for him to stop. Chukwuedo reportedly refused to stop and attempted to download away but Sergeant Emeka opened fire and ripped his stomach and thighs open.
Chukwuedo was rushed to a hospital while the trigger-happy Sergeant Emeka was arrested.
A resident described Sergeant Emeka as a well-known drunk.
“Sergeant Emeka is well known in Ubulu Uku community. He is a drunk and we learnt he was drunk that day when he shot Ijeh (Chukwuedo). Other policemen with him blamed him for shooting the young man. People wanted to mob him, but he was rescued. He has been taken into custody. Ijeh is admitted to the FMC ASaba,” he said.
Police Corp0ral Gunned Down
In a related development, the police was the victim when a yet unidentified corp0ral attached to the Ashaka Police Division in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State was gunned down by suspected hired assassins at his residence.
A security source said the killing of the corp0ral might be connected with the death of two suspects who escaped from police custody after been arrested for allegedly raping a 20-year-old girl.
According to the source, the suspects were later found drowned in a river.
The source said, “Our men had arrested two youths who were among the seven persons accused of raping a 20-year-old girl, but the suspects escaped with their handcuffs from the station.
“Their corpses were later recovered from a nearby river the following day by fishermen. We suspect that some of the friends and relatives of the deceased killed the corp0ral.”
The spokesman for the state police command, Andrew Aniamaka, confirmed the incident, saying that no suspect had been arrested in connection with the killing, Punch reports.
Aniamaka added that the police were on the trail of the killers of the cop.
