6 Annoying Things Lagosians Do On Snapchat

Unless you are living under a rock, or just ignorant, you have probably heard about Snapchat, and chances are, you have already registered an account. In fact, as it is, almost everyone in Lagos uses it!

Snapchat has become the go-to app to capture a quick life-moment, with hilarious face swaps of course. But then, as always, some people, who clearly have no chill at all, and possibly no clue on how to properly use the app, have found ways take away the joy of seeing that iconic red square pop up by irritating those who actually know how to use the app.

Are you new to the Snapchat app and not sure if you have been using the app the right way? Thanks to Jumia Travel, now you can check out some quirks to ensure you are not a culprit.

Hashtags

Most social media users are crazy about hashtags. They do not only use in on social media platforms anymore but include it in face to face conversations with friends and even co-workers! Unlike Instagram and Twitter where hashtags are actually relevant and can lead you somewhere. Snapchat does NOT use hashtags and so, it is essentially pointless to use them on the app, especially as you are even limited to a tiny character count anyway.

Posting personal snaps on their Snapchat story

Most people in Lagos will send you a personal snap, and as a direct message and you think it is exclusively for you, but after a few minutes you still see it shared on their Snapchat story? Like…what is up with that? An individual, personalized snap gives the impression that you have taken time out of your day to send a private message to the person, and seeing it publicized like that is just betrayal. Basically, getting a notification for no reason when it’s already in the ‘story’ is viewed as the kind of attention seeking ploy that gets many people deleted.

Mouthing the Words to a popular Song

This started with Instagram, but has being taken to a whole new level on Snapchat. A person takes a snap of him or herself either lying or sitting down and mouthing the words to a popular song while the music plays in the background. Really? It is rather confusing. It is not a cover plus, we all know the song. Why do it? For what reason?

Snapchats From The Club

Yes, Snapchat is great for recording fun, crazy moments, but what is the point recording something that cannot be really seen clearly or understood basically. Most of the snaps from clubs are videos of a blacked out screen with a few disco lights in the background and your voice being drowned out by music that is so loud the bass nearly destroys the viewer’s phone speakers. Why insist on them? It is rather frustrating for viewers who have to sit and endure the footage.

The 100 Seconds or More Stories

A lot of Snapchat users in Lagos document their entire life stories on Snapchat, such that you get a minute-by-minute update of their life, and after a long day at work, when you sit down for a Snapchat session, you end up viewing a story 130 seconds long. Why? The entire thing would not be so bad if the snaps were not mostly pointless and utterly annoying.

“Goodnight” Snaps

This has to be the most annoying of all the snaps posted by people on the app. Getting daily “Good morning world” snaps is one thing but ‘goodnight’ snaps? Really?
