Three people have died and 14 others injured in a ghastly motor accident around Berger area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

The accident occurred at about 5.36 a.m. on Thursday by Conoil Filling Station towards the tollgate.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, three people were confirmed dead in the accident.

General Manager of LASEMA, Michael Akindele, said the agency received an alert via the 767/112 emergency numbers of Lagos State of an accident involving an LT commercial bus with registration number KRD 326 XG and an articulated truck, without a registration number, along Lagos-Ibadan expressway, inward toll gate by Conoil Filling Station on Thursday at about 5.36 a.m.

“This prompted immediate activation of the Emergency Response Team, ERT of LASEMA and other emergency responders which include Lagos State Ambulance Services, Lagos State Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, LASTMA and the FRSC to the scene of accident,” he said.

He said preliminary investigation carried out by the ERT at the scene of the incident revealed that the incident was as a result of reckless driving by the truck driver, who collided with the LT bus, which made the bus to crash off the road.

He disclosed that nine passengers sustained serious injuries, while five others sustained minor injuries and were immediately taken to the trauma centre by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps and LASAMBUS.

“Three passengers were also trapped and confirmed dead. They were extricated by the LASEMA Emergency Response Team with the use of the light duty equipment. The dead victims were two adult males and one adult female.

“A total number of 17 passengers were said to be on board of the LT bus, while the truck driver was also taken to the trauma centre as a result of shock,” he said.

Akindele advised motorists to avoid reckless driving and also ensure driving within the appropriate speed limit to prevent accidents in the state.
