arring any last-minute change, President Buhari is expected to present the 2018 budget to a joint session of the National Assembly today November 7th. The budget presentation is expected to take place at about 2pm. Security has been beefed up around the National Assembly ahead of President Buhari’s visit.
Meanwhile, consultations are currently ongoing within lawmakers as some of them have vowed to disrupt the budget presentation. According to National Assembly sources, the aggrieved lawmakers argue that the 2017 budget has not been adequately executed and so there cannot be a 2018 budget presentation. The executive, however, says they want to be passed before December so the budget can return to its original execution calendar which is from January to December.
