Nigerian Twitter Doubts Zulum’s Claim On Christian Boko Haram Members

Nigerians, on Sunday, asked Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, to provide proofs that Christians are part of Boko Haram, a sect terrorising the North-East of Nigeria.

Zulum had alleged on Friday at an event in Lagos that Asians, foreigners and other Africans are part of the terror group.

“I’m from Borno State, and many of our children are in Boko Haram. I’m not denying the fact. But again, they are being sponsored by many people across the world. Among Boko Haram, we have white men, Asians, Africans, Muslims and Christians,” Zulum had said.

Many Nigerians on Twitter have since doubted the governor’s revelation as Boko Haram has consistently identified with Islam. The terror group’s leader, Abubakar Shekau had also at several times featured in videos speaking Arabic and citing Quranic verses.

Reacting to the governor’s statement, a Twitter user @Mrseletto said, “I’m here wondering what this information has to do with wiping them (Boko Haram) out of our land. I have come to the conclusion that the North will always give excuses and run away from the truth.”

@OparaVik said, “They have started again, trying their diversionary tactics.”

“How many Christian were caught red-handed trying to burn churches and mosques so far?” @Mradamu3 queried.

But @hassancissey countered, “In the world we live in now, anybody can do anything for money. So, if he (Zulum) said some Christians and foreigners are involved, it may not be far from the truth.”

@demdam added, “I hope the governor has incontrovertible evidence to support this wild assertion. Otherwise, it’d just be the case of the armless farmer, blaming the farm tools, for his inability to sow!”

@orrbazz, however, quipped, “The repented Boko Haram members, how many were Christians, Mr Zulum?”

For more than 10 years, the Boko Haram terror group had killed hundreds of Nigerians in the North-East. The sect had also burnt down and bombed scores of villages as well as churches. The Nigerian Army and the Presidency had at several times claimed the group had been ‘technically defeated’ and ‘weakened’ but the Abubakar Shekau’s bloodthirsty faction continues to strike with daring effrontery and crude savagery.
