Mystery Surrounds Death Of Ekiti Radio Presenter ‘Kbaba’ Hours After Show As Family Alleges Police, Ademimogo FM Cover-Up

Ogunleke reportedly died on Saturday, hours after hosting his radio programme, sparking confusion among colleagues, listeners, and family members.

The family of Kayode Ogunleke, popularly known as Kbaba, a presenter with Ademimogo 107.7 FM in Ido-Ekiti, has accused the Nigerian police and the station’s management of covering up the circumstances surrounding his sudden death.

Ogunleke reportedly died on Saturday, hours after hosting his radio programme, sparking confusion among colleagues, listeners, and family members.

In an exclusive interview with SaharaReporters, the brother of the deceased narrated how conflicting accounts from Ademimogo FM management and the police deepened the family’s suspicion.

“I received a call from the MD of Ademimogo FM that my brother is dead. That was on Saturday. I asked him how and what led to his death, and he told me it was an accident,” he told SaharaReporters.

“So, some family members and I quickly left Lagos for Ido Ekiti. Then we went to the office and they took us to Ido Police Station. It was at the station that the police told us a different thing from what the MD of his workplace said.”

According to him, the police claimed they found Ogunleke’s corpse lying on the road and rushed him to a clinic, where he was later confirmed dead.

“The police said they found his corpse lying helpless on the road, and they took him to the clinic, and it was there that they pronounced him dead. So that was why they dropped him at the morgue. So I quickly confronted the MD about why he lied in the first place that my brother died from an accident. The police now said the MD said that because he did not know what to say,” he added.

The family said they insisted on viewing the body, but found no physical injuries or visible marks that could explain the death.

“I told them I wanted to see my brother; I saw him and checked his body, and there was no cut, no wound, no injuries,” the bereaved brother said.

“Then I asked them what led to his sudden death after he performed his show. So we told the police we wanted to do an autopsy to know the reason for the death. It was at that point that the police said they didn’t know where to do that in the state.”

The family also accused Ademimogo FM of failing to provide critical information about Ogunleke’s final hours.

He said, “We demanded the CCTV from the FM station management to see the moments my brother was working… they said they don’t have. Okay, we also asked them to give us the record of his shows to assess his voice and determine his state of mind to know if he was unwell that same day, but they did not provide it.

“From all indications, it is clear that the police and the radio station are covering up some things. My brother was not sick. He was well and healthy that day when he went to work. There was no clear account of how he died. The police report and what the radio management said are contradictory.”

Meanwhile, Ademimogo Communications Limited, owners of the station, had announced Ogunleke’s death in a condolence message signed by its Chief Operating Officer, Babatunde Bamigboye Omo Edema.

“Kbaba was kind, open-minded, and very talented. He loved his work and inspired both his teammates and listeners. Losing him so suddenly has been very painful for all of us,” the company said, describing his passing as a devastating loss.

The management asked for privacy for his family, while expressing “sympathy and prayers to Kbaba’s family, friends, and fans.”

But the family has rejected the official explanation, insisting that only a proper investigation and an independent autopsy will reveal the truth about what happened to Ogunleke.
