The menace of armed robberies and kidnappings have returned to the Abuja-Kaduna expressway following the killing and abducting scores of travellers on Sunday (yesterday). According to reports, the attack occurred near Gidan Busa village, located between Jere and Kateri along the expressway.
A former Katsina state commissioner of Education Prof. “Halimatu Sa’adiya Idris” was among the victims killed as a result of gunshot by bandits last night along Kaduna/Abuja road.
One of the survivors from the scene said an army officer and a policeman were among those killed by the gunmen.
“There is an army officer travelling with his orderly and daughter. The orderly escaped with gunshot but they killed the army officer and his daughter on the spot,” Haruna Isa, a VW Golf driver who survived the attack said.
“There is another person they killed after identifying that he was a policeman. Several other passengers were killed, while many were abducted.”
Witnesses said the security officers refused to engage the kidnappers on the premise that “they were waiting for reinforcement”.
The latest attack is coming one day after a young man identified as Shehu Alaka, a student of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University in Katsina state, was killed by armed robbers. The deceased who was based in Abuja – was said to be returning home when his bus was ambushed by armed robbers along Kaduna-Abuja road and he was killed in the process.
