No fewer than five people have lost their lives in separate road accidents in Osun, Ogun and Rivers states.

In Osun, two passengers lost their lives in a crash along the Ilesha-Akure Expressway near Iwaraja Junction.

The accident, which occurred around 10pm on Wednesday, involved two vehicles – a truck and a bus.

The Osun Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Agnes Ogungbemi, confirmed the accident.

Ogungbemi said while the corpse of one of the victims was taken to the morgue of the Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesha, the remains of the second victim could not be removed.

“The other dead victim was trapped in the vehicle and could not be removed immediately. The accident was caused by speed limit violation and loss of control,” Ogungbemi said.

She added that three other injured passengers were taken to the Wesley Guild Hospital for treatment.

In Ogun State, a survivor of a tanker explosion admitted to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, died on Thursday.

The 42-year-old, whose name was not disclosed, was rescued from the scene of the tanker explosion which occurred on Tuesday on the Presidential Boulvard, Kuto, Abeokuta.

In Rivers, two passengers travelling from Owerre to Port Harcourt on Wednesday lost their lives, while many others sustained varying degrees of injury in an auto crash at the Obiri Ikwerre axis of the Airport Road in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

It was learnt that a trailer had attempted to avoid a bad portion of the road and while reversing, a speeding commercial bus trying to avoid it lost control and somersaulted.

A witness said the bad spot which caused the accident had been a death trap for motorists plying the route, adding that appeals to relevant authorities to fix the road had failed.
