Finalissima 2022: Why Italy Loss 3-0 Against Messi-Led Argentina – Roberto Mancini

Italy manager, Roberto Mancini, has given a reason his team lost 3-0 against Argentina in Wednesday’s Finalissima at Wembley.

Mancini watched as Italy was defeated by the Copa America holders, Argentina with goals from Lautaro Martinez, Angel Di Maria and Paulo Dybala, while goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma kept the scoreline down with a series of saves on his Paris Saint-Germain teammate Lionel Messi.

The former Manchester City coach said Argentina defeated Italy because his players made errors in possession during the encounter.

“We got to play this match because we won the Euros and achieved that when unbeaten for three-and-a-half years,” said Mancini in his post-match press conference.

“This silver medal, therefore, nonetheless represents a strong moment in our careers. I can only thank those lads who played over the last four years, and we are all deeply disappointed to be missing out on the World Cup.

“The game was balanced this evening until they scored, then Argentina deserved the victory. It’s sad that the two goals came from our errors in possession.

“The squad is tired, and it was always our intention to begin the process of change after this match,” he added.

Italy will now shift their attention to the Nations League games. They will face Germany on Saturday.
