DEVELOPING STORY: Tems Also Arrested in Uganda Alongside Omah Lay


A sensational Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, professionally known as Tems, has been arrested by the police in Uganda.

Her manager, Muyiwa Awomiyi was also arrested.

The news of her arrest follows reports that her Nigerian counterpart, Omah Lay, was also arrested yesterday following their performance at The Big Brunch Afrobeats Edition in Uganda.

The announcement of their arrest was made by the Ugandan Assistant Superintendent of Police, and Deputy Police Spokesperson, Kampala Metropolitan, Lukowoyesigyire.

“Nigerian Artist Omah lay has been arrested by katwe police, the manager of the venue one Dungu Ivan, and the Events manager Prim Kasana are also in custody. More details to follow. Temilade Openiyi Aka Ms Tems (Artist) also been arrested with her manager Muyiwa Awomiyi,” Lukowoyesigyire said.

While reasons for their arrest remain sketchy, a report has it that they were detained following protests by Ugandan artists on social media.

According to the report, Ugandan artists were furious because they were not allowed to perform in their country, but foreign artists were allowed to.

Nigerians have taken to Twitter to call for Omah Lay’s arrest.
