YouTube has unveiled a strong group of singers from five nations who will play at the Africa Day Concert this year. The Africa Day Concert, now in its third year, will be presented by celebrity Idris Elba, like in prior years. The yearly performance is a musical ode to Africa, showcasing the world’s most popular African musicians.
The concert will feature musical acts that will be broadcast to a worldwide audience. D’banj, Davido, Ckay, Yemi Alade, Reekado Banks, and Mayorkun are set to perform at the concert.
The main aim of the concert is to commemorate the foundation of the Organisation of Africa Unity on the 25th of May 1963 by using music as a platform to showcase African culture. It also seeks to unite Africans, Africans in the Diaspora, and people from all over the world together to celebrate a continent that is home to over 1.5 billion people and producing new forms of cultural expression. Artists from Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, South Africa, and the Congo will play at this year’s concert.
The concert will be streamed exclusively on YouTube at 19:00 CAT / 18:00 WAT on the 25th of May, 2022.
