When a relationship ends we tend to ask ourselves where we went wrong. Was it something I said? Was it a mistake I made? While some breakups are inevitable, you can do your part from preventing it from happening:
1. Make your relationship a priority
Your partner should never be at the bottom of your list of priorities. If you really care for your relationship you will want it to survive. You need to show your partner and your relationship attention, tenderness and love for it to grow strong.
2. Understand your partner
Ask yourself what you think your partner needs. Their well-being is something to consider when you make decisions. Does she need more emotional reassurance? Do you need to make more time in your schedule to spend time for him? Ask yourself how you can make your partner happier and see how your relationship improves.
3. Communication is key
If your partner does not know what is going on in your life what is the point of being together in the first place? Clear communication happens when you both are talking and listening to each other.
4. Remember Where You Started
Looking back at how it all began will give you the motivation to find those B.utterflies you had at the beginning. Sometimes all a relationship needs is to remember how much you loved it when he first kissed you. It always comes back to the beginning.
5. Know Where You Want It To Go
Once you have dated for a while, you need to decide where this is going. Talk about what you both want out of this relationship to make sure you are heading in the right direction. This will avoid any misunderstandings and confusing ideas about the two of you.
6. Be open-minded
I’m not saying to change your standards or expectations, but don’t be so quick to judge. For things to last, you will need to emB.race some aspects you don’t absolutely love about your partner. Have faith and support their goals.
7. Respect Them
In my opinion, I consider this to be the most important one of all. Do not blame, insult, or lie to your partner. Obviously, if you want your relationship to last, you need to give it the respect that it deserves. The little things make the biggest difference; Instead of zoning out when your partner is talking to you, pay attention! Instead of being distracted by what is on Netflix, go snuggle up with your other half and talk about your day. This will show how much you care and make them feel like they come first.
8. Have Faith
I know this sounds cliché, but believing that a relationship will not work out means that you aren’t giving it a chance. It might as well be over before it even began. Believe in making this relationship work can help make it last.
Put your relationship above distractions and give your partner the attention and love they deserve. It won’t be easy, but something that makes you truly happy never is easy. It takes work and practice but on day you will look over at your spouse and realize “you made it”. That will make it well worth the work in the end.
