Jonathan reportedly visited Obasanjo to end frosty relationship

– Obasanjo reportedly took Jonathan to Otta to avoid prying eyes at his Abeokuta hilltop residence

– Sources say Jonathan met with Obasanjo to thaw the frosty relations between the two ex-presidents which has remained since 2015

– Jonathan was said to have arrived at Ibogun on a private helicopter and he was taken around the village by Obas

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo met with his older counterpart Olusegun Obasanjo at the latter’s home at Ibogun Olaogun in Otta, Ogun state on Friday, January 20 because he wanted to restore cordial relations between them after a frosty 2015 election, Premium Times reports.

Pictures emerged on Friday showing Jonathan arriving Obasanjo’s residence for a closed door meeting, details of which are still coming out in bits.

Premium Times however quoted a close aide to Jonathan as saying: “He told Baba that whatever had passed should be left in the past because the future holds even bigger promises for the two of them.”

But Jonathan, who arrived with a former minister of special duties Kabiru Turaki and one of his childhood friend who was identified simply as “Turner”, had been trying to visit Obasanjo since the yuletide but had been busy.

“He said since he was unable to make it to Baba’s place around Christmas period, he had to find time to do so before January ends,” Turaki said as Jonathan watched and smiled. “He believes it’s better late than never.”

Jonathan was said to have arrived in a private helicopter to Ibogun village after Obasanjo tactically moved the meeting from his famous hilltop residence in Abeokuta because of prying eyes.

Obasanjo took Jonathan round the village introducing him to community leaders then they returned home for a meal and the closed door meeting.

Friday’s meeting was the first time the two former presidents would sit down to a discussion since Jonathan left office in May 2015.

Meanwhile, Jonathan’s visit has proved false reports that he was allegedly invited by new US president Donald Trump to his inauguration on Friday, January 20 and had indeed traveled to the United States to honour the invitation.
